Burley in Wharfedale United Reformed Church
Situated near to the Yorkshire Dales, Burley in Wharfedale URC
Church is set in the middle of a busy, vibrant commuter village with easy access to nearby towns and cities. Burley URC is one of four local churches in the heart of the local community, and is part of Churches Together in Burley & Menston.
Regular Coffee Mornings are held on the first Saturday of each month which are well supported by local people. URCinema is very popular with regular showings on the last Saturday of each month. There are also Quiz Nights, Church Lunches, Garden Parties, Poetry Reading and Opera evenings as well as involvement with the local Christmas Market and Burley Summer Festival organised by the Burley Chamber of Trade.
The Church, which is a Grade 2 listed building, stands on the main road in the centre of the village. The Church Hall is situated behind the Queens Head Pub, in the corner of the public park.
The regular weekly Sunday service is the 10.15am Service which has a fairly traditional format, follows the lectionary, and the Sacrament of Holy Communion is celebrated on the first Sunday of every month.
Burley URC belongs to the Harrogate URC Mission & Care Group which includes St Pauls Harrogate, West Park Harrogate, Bilton Grange, Dacre, Otley and Knaresborough. We meet quarterly and share occasional Praise Services.
Every year at the ACM a charity is chosen to fundraise for. The ones we supported recently include: Burley Tereli Friendship Trust (local charity), Yorkshire Air Ambulance, Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association, Lifeboats, Smile and Safe Haven. We also regularly support Christian Aid and Commitment for Life.
